September 1

Saturday, the Sarasota Herald Tribune ran two interesting articles. The first, by Thomas Tryon explains how one candidate spent $64,000 on his campaign yet only received 16% of the vote. I believe this shows that the voters are smart enough to read between the lines and to vote for the person they believe will best serve them and not special interest groups or political power brokers.

The other article written by Zac Anderson, comments on the funds raised by the three candidates for County Commission District one. This peaked my curiosity so I went to the Supervisor of Election web site and read the list of contributors to my opponents. Amazingly, my democratic opponents’ list of contributors reads as a “who’s who" list of developers, builders and republicans! Perhaps all is not as it would appear to be.

Many years ago John Adams was quoted as saying “ Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.”
